Fix for Fortnite Error "An Unreal Crashed Trial: UE4-FortniteGame"

[ad_1]

Fortnite runs on what is known as the “Unreal Engine” – a piece of software developed by Epic Games to provide 3D gaming functionality to other developers.

While the Unreal Engine element of Fortnite’s likes is generally kept out of sight of the end user, it is present and an essential part of the likes of Fortnite, PUBG and other major games.

Unfortunately, this can be the case if the engine is damaged or corrupted, leading to strange errors – such as the “An Unreal Crashed Trial: UE4-FortniteGame“error.

Cause

The cause of this error is the way Windows is not able to work with the UnrealEngine application, required by Fortnite’s likes to operate.

The problem is typically caused by problems with settings in Windows (which may include the registry), or by integration problems with DirectX and other third-party libraries.

To resolve this, you must first ensure that the Fortnite application is operating properly, and then that it is able to clean up any potentially damaged settings such as Windows logs or other third-party libraries.

Solution

1. Change the compatibility settings for Fortnite

The first step is to make sure you have the correct “compatibility” settings for Fortnite.

This is a standard Windows process, which allows basically any version of Windows after 7 to run “older” software (designed for XP tastes etc.).

  • Press the “Windows” + “E” keys on your keyboard

  • Browse to “C: / Program Files / Epic Games / Fortnite / FortniteGame / Binaries / Win64”

  • Scroll down to “FortniteClient-Win64-Shipping.exe”

  • Right click

  • Select “Properties”

  • From the top “tabs”, choose “Compatibility”

  • Scroll down and check “Disable Optimization OnScreen”

  • Click OK

  • Repeat this for any of the “FortniteClient …” EXE files in the / Win64 folder

  • Try the game again

2. Use the Fortnite “Verify” Trick

The next step is to try to use the “verify” tool from the startup of the Epic Games launcher.

To do this is really very simple:

  • If you are leaving the “File Explorer” part of Windows, load it again

  • Navigate to the folder where you were right, and this time DELETE the “FortniteClient-Win64 …” folder.

  • After doing that, click on the “Epic Game Launcher” button on your desktop

  • Select “Fortnite”

  • Next to the green “Launch” button, select the small wheel icon

  • From the list, select “Verify”

  • This will scan the files of your game

  • Let the scan finish and perform any repairs

  • Restart your PC and try the game again

3. Change the Registry Settings In Windows

The Windows registry is a central database responsible for archiving everything from your desktop wallpaper to applications you’ve recently used.

While using your system, various elements of this database can become damaged or corrupted – leading to errors such as the one you are experiencing.

To resolve this, you can go into it and change all the settings that have been identified as causing the error:

  • Press the “Windows” + “S” keys on your keyboard

  • Type “Rededit”, right-click on the first list that appears and select “Run as Administrator”

  • Browse: “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlGraphicsDrivers”

  • Right-click and select “New”> “REG_DWORD”

  • Change its name to “TdrDelay”

  • Change your data to “00000008”

  • Exit the registry editor

  • Restart your PC

  • Try the game again

If the above does not work, I suggest you have a problem with another aspect of the system.

Unfortunately, since the UnrealEngine is embedded in Fortnite, it’s not something you can uninstall manually without causing any more problems.

If you want to try it out, you may be better off reinstalling the Fortnite game completely, or if you need more support, you would be advised to talk to someone with specific knowledge / experience with your system.

There are many online communities that have the ability to do this – Reddit, SuperUser and MicrosoftAnswers are the most prolific.

If you use your computer for business, it will probably be more effective to get someone to do the repair for you. Many suppliers in Fiverr offer reasonable prices, and of course, you have the local market that can come and give you direct support.
